Burns, Karen Eileen (Parker), age 72, of Cranston, passed away on January 22nd, 2023 at Miriam Hospital. She was the former wife of. Robert E. (“Bobby”) Burns III and the former longtime companion of Marvin R. (“Ray”) Ewell.
Born in Providence, RI, Ms. Burns was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary Parker. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School, Class of 1969. Karen worked in the nursing field for many years, which she enjoyed doing.
Ms. Burns belonged to Church of the Master, located in Providence. Karen enjoyed playing bingo, enjoyed listening to the oldies but goodies by artists of the ‘50s and ‘60s, loved playing games on her cell phone, enjoyed outings to the local casinos, loved to travel, enjoyed attending sporting events for her children and grandchildren, spending close quality time with her family, enjoyed companionship with her cats and dogs.
She will be forever remembered for her kind thoughtfulness, her charisma, always being able to put a smile on someone’s face and light up a room, her laughter, always lending a helping hand to those in need, her heart felt conversations, and being a firm believer in the importance of family.
Besides her former husband, Ms. Burns is survived by her three children, Jeffrey Burns and his wife Elizabeth of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Michelle Eletu and her husband Latif of Cranston, and Marvin Ewell II and his husband Michael of Cranston. She is also survived by one brother, Walter Parker and his wife Janice of Valrico, FL, four grandsons (Cyle, Latif, Raheem, and James) as well as three granddaughters (Mariam, Mollie, and Paige) and one great-grandson (Noah). She also leaves behind a considerable amount of cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by four sisters (Lorraine, Ella, Evelyn, and Louise) and two brothers (Arthur and Richard).
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, January 27th, 2023, from 5:00 – 8:00pm at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Higginson Avenue, Lincoln, RI 02866. Funeral services will begin at 9:30am on Saturday, January 28th, 2023 at Keefe Funeral Home with a funeral home service at 10:00am. Interment will follow at the New Rockland Cemetery (Scituate).
